SNAPSHOT – CURRENT STATUS OF INSTITUTION WITH REGARD TO INTERNATIONALITY

1. Describe in detail the current international activity for the academic year, such as international collaborations for research, international students, Israeli students abroad, the global study experience for local students, faculty mobility, projects for capacity building, and more.

This past year, JCE has devoted increased attention to internationality, under new leadership.

• JCE is currently a partner in an ERASMUS grant:
  • ERASMUS+DOCMEN Project: “Development of two cycle innovative curricula in microelectronic engineering" – DOCMEN, 561627-EPP-1-2015-1-PL-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP, July 2017. Coordinator: Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology, Krakow, Poland. Participating countries include: Israel, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Italy, Denmark, Bulgaria, and Germany.
• JCE was a partner in an Erasmus grant submission:
  • ERASMUS+, TRUSTIE Project: "Transparent Recognition of University credit and grading Systems beTween Israel and Europe", Coordinator: Jadwiga Bolechowska, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Wroclaw Poland. Participating countries: Israel, Poland, Italy, Romania.
• JCE signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Purdue University Northwest (US) in February 2017 to promote the enrichment of teaching and learning, research and discovery, and engagements and missions, as well as to provide an exchange of faculty and students and other collaboration.
• St Kliment Ohridski” University – Bitola, Republic of Macedonia agreement for collaboration with JCE's AtoBe technology accelerator, 2017
• In the recent past  (through last year) JCE was a partner in the following European Union TEMPUS/ERASMUS programs:

1. Strengthening education in space-based remote sensing for monitoring of eco systems. TEMPUS, 543720-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-DE-TEMPUS-JPCR, 2013-2016, 1000000 € – Consortium of 11 universities. The project was conducted at JCE by Prof. Uri Shaked, Prof. Yitzhak Irving Kalet, Dr. Doron Ben Zvi and Dr. Eran Gur from the Electrical and Electronics Department.
2. Modernization of two cycles (M.A., B.A.) of competence-based curricula in Materials Engineering according to the best experience of Bologna Process,  TEMPUS, 543994-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-BE-TEMPUS-JPCR, 2013-2016, €1,000,000 – Consortium of 19 institutions. The project is conducted at JCE by Prof. Eitan Manor, Prof. Avigdor Zangvil, and Dr.  Rakefet Ofek-Almog from the Advanced Materials Engineering Department.

• A joint course will be implemented in the coming academic year with the University of San Diego: A course on Water Management will be offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of San Diego, and the Department of Advanced Material Engineering at Azrieli College of Engineering Jerusalem. The USD course is a 3-credit course, and the Azrieli course is a 5-credit course. This course is founded on the common characteristic of lack of water in Israel and southern California, which is the common basis for the Water Management and Treatment course. The two lecturers (Prof. Frank Jacobitz, USD, and Dr. Yaal Lester, Azrieli) met in Jerusalem in June 2018 and designed a course, where Dr. Lester will go to USD and give introductory lectures at the beginning of the spring semester, and during USD’s spring break, their students will come to Jerusalem for a week of three lectures, four lab sessions, and two on-site tours.
