The purpose of this course is to understand the main problems and the basic solutions and tools, in the fields of Natural Language Processing (NLP). The course will include basic terms in statistics and corpus analysis.
Exercise will be theoretical and will include some practice in computer-based tools and some programming.
Course Outline:
- Introduction to NLP - aspects of Natural Language, basic terms (Morphology, Syntax, Semantics, Lexicons).
- Morphology: stemming, lemmatizing, morphological analysis, part of speech tagging.
- Syntax: CFG grammars, shallow parsing, parsing
- Lexical semantics and lexicons: WordNet.
- Natural Language Generation
- NLP in Information Retrieval
